Santa and Bekins offer this moving checklist for moving over the holidays.
It can be a ho-ho horror moving over the holiday season. However, it doesn’t have to be that way when you’re prepared for the inevitable. Bekins Kelowna has made a moving checklist (and like Santa, we’ve checked it twice) to help you get organized.
December is one of the most popular times to move. Avoid the holiday rush by booking your Kelowna and Vernon movers as soon as you know your moving date.
If you’re a young family with children, make a move to a new school a smooth transition by getting transfer papers in early before the holidays. Don’t forget to arrange bus transportation with the local school district if your new home is more than a kilometre away from your child’s school.
Kill two birds with one stone by including your change of address announcement with your Christmas cards before you move. You’ll save on postage and will be sure to receive return cards from friends and family to the right address.
Moving as a family unit over the holidays should be just that, a unit. It’s unfair to expect only one or two people to do all the packing and cleaning. Assign a task to each member of your family.
Give the kids some incentive to earn that game console they have been asking for all year by getting them to purge, sell, or donate their unwanted belongings before they pack. Hold a cleaning party and provide some holiday cheer —pizza and eggnog— to thank everyone for helping
Winter weather in BC can be unpredictable. Be prepared by placing winter tires on your vehicle as soon as the fall leaves drop. Carry chains if crossing over any mountain passes. Check the forecast before your moving day and arrange accommodation if you are moving long-distance and anticipate inclement weather.
If there is some time between moving from your old house to your new one, see if your moving company offers storage services to hold your goods before delivery.
Even though you are moving at the busiest time of the year, you should still celebrate the season. Don’t disappoint the kids on Christmas morning by having to open every single moving box to find their presents. Get organized by shopping for gifts early and then pack them separately in an accessible place that won’t get lost along the way to your new home. Keep your Christmas decorations on hand as well, and go pick out that tree as soon as you arrive so you can all be merry and bright.
