Use our moving tips for a smooth transition to your new home with a baby.

Let’s face it. Moving is hard work at the best of times. But it is even more complicated when you’re a new family. If you have just become new parents, there are other things to take into consideration than just packing boxes and hiring a moving company in Canada to transport your possessions to your new abode. Read our moving tips and tricks to help you handle the load and that tiny bundle of joy at the same time.

Just Breathe

It’s important to avoid making rash decisions and rushing when you are moving with a young family. Take the time to prepare for your move and keep up with those daily routines that are essential to your child’s development.

Make sure to:

  • Arrange grandparents or close family members or friends to look after the baby just before moving day.
  • Bring something familiar such as a soothing toy or a favourite blanket on the drive to your new home.
  • Book time off work to attend to last-minute details.
  • Spend quality time with the family such as going for walks or to the park.
  • Avoid such tasks such as toilet training or replacing your child’s crib with a toddler bed until at least a week or two after you move.
  • Eat healthily.
  • Stay calm during tantrums or whining periods.
  • Do yoga and other breathing exercises.

Make a Packing and Moving Checklists

After tackling your main items, make sure to pack your child’s essentials in a box or bag that is easy to access and have it on you at all times. Don’t forget to include:

  • Bottles and feeding utensils/bowls
  • Bibs, burp cloths
  • Baby bath, shampoo, soap, bubble bath, towel
  • Formula or breast milk (freeze and place bags into a cooler)
  • Bottle warmer or small kettle
  • Diapers, wipes
  • Enough clothes for one-to-two weeks

Ask for Help!

Juggling a move with a young family should not be done without proper support. Ask for help for all those impossible-to-do-alone chores such as packing. Even better, hire professional movers and packers to pack and do the heavy lifting for you.
