Moving Last Minute with Kids
Posted on July 10, 2018
Sending your kids to summer camp will let you and your movers get down to work.
Keeping your kids occupied in summer can feel like a full-time job for some working parents. If you’ve hired last minute movers to relocate to a new home in the midst of all the summer camps and weekends with the grandparents, you’ll be busier than normal.
Fortunately, the hectic pace is short-lived. Once you’ve moved and start to settle in, life will carry on and you’ll get to enjoy your new home. To help with the moving process, we’ve come up with a few strategies that can not only help you deal with kids during a move, but put their services to good use.
Get Your Kids to Do Their Own Packing
Kids have it pretty easy these days. Cell phones, tablets, gaming consoles and just about every other modern convenience is at their disposal, for their personal entertainment.
As a way of teaching them responsibility, ask them to pack these cherished belongings. Delegating tasks such as this to family members will help share the workload, freeing you up to take on other jobs, while teaching your children about responsibility and organization.
As an incentive, you could reward your kids for their effort with something like:
- Tickets to a sporting event or concert
- Family trip
Get Them out of the House
Sometimes, kids, especially younger ones, can be a distraction when you’re trying to get things done. Getting them out of the house is sometimes the best thing you can do to remain productive. After all, when it comes to hiring a moving company, Kelowna homeowners know it’s important to stay on schedule.
Fortunately, there are a number of summer camps in the Kelowna area that cater to a wide range of activities and interests, including:
- Glenmore Martial Arts
- Okanagan College
- UBCO Okanagan
- Central Okanagan Sailing Association
- Kelowna Gymnastix
- City of Kelowna
For added convenience, many of these camps offer a combination of multi-day, full-day or partial day camps.
Hire Professional Help (for Your Move, not Your Kids)
Even with the proper planning, pulling off a last minute move can be a tall task. Bringing in last minute movers can alleviate a lot of stress, as they can help with packing, loading, transporting and unloading your goods.
Plus, professional movers have the necessary skills, manpower and equipment to move just about any object imaginable, including larger items such as:
- Hot tubs
- Pool tables
